HAFAS User Conference 2016: Trends and Innovations in Passenger Information

HaCon held its annual HAFAS User Conference for the fourth time at the Hannover Congress Centrum HCC. 450 participants from 15 countries attended the two-day event to see HaCon's latest product developments.

HaCon CubeHaCon customers from around the world followed the invitation to the HAFAS User Conference that focuses on innovations in the field of digital passenger information. The software specialists introduced their latest mobility solutions on April 19th and 20th, 2016, in Hannover, Germany. In addition to HaCon's own presentations and workshops, the international audience saw first-hand insights from German, Belgian, Danish, French and US customers who are working with HAFAS.

This year, the topic of interaction between transport operators and passengers attracted lots of interest. To facilitate this form of communication, HaCon developed the new HAFAS Instant Platform HIP that will enable travelers to directly message other passengers and the staff. With these new functions, transport companies can easily gather ratings and feedback on trips and infrastructure, while passengers can chat with each other and claim a stop request or a connection via their smartphone. The control center can directly respond via push or chat and ensure reliable connections based on the passengers' app check-ins.

Another important keyword at the HAFAS User Conference was user experience. HaCon introduced its own Kids App, a new drag and drop function for searching connections as well as interactive network plans. Semantic voice and text input is still growing in popularity, especially when using wearables such as Apple Watch and Android Wear, or the new HAFAS bots that enable searching connections directly via the Facebook Messenger.

Together with their New York City-based partner Bytemark, HaCon will soon launch its first app for the North American market: Capital Metro from Austin, Texas, presented the joint project that combines HAFAS trip planning tools and Bytemark's integrated ticketing. HaCon's vehicle management system HAFAS Smart VMS now not only generates real-time data in the vehicles, but also offers a new navigation feature that is currently being successfully field-tested in Paris by SNCF Transilien.
