HaCon among the MIT Technology Review's "50 Smartest Companies 2015"

Hannover Jul 03, 2015

HaCon is thrilled to announce its latest award: The world's leading university in technological research and teaching, namely the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), included HaCon in their list of the "50 Smartest Companies 2015". As one of seven European companies that were honored by the MIT, HaCon is mentioned in the same breath with well-known US players such as Apple, Google, Tesla and Netflix.

"To make the list, a company must have truly innovative technology and a business model that is both practical and ambitious, with the result that it has set the agenda in its field over the past 12 months," writes Nanette Byrnes in the latest issue of MIT Technology Review (Vol. 118, July/August 2015) and continues about HaCon: “Its popular travel planning apps in Europe combine information on taxis, car rental, bike sharing, and public transportation systems."

HaCon's "popular travel planning apps" are based on the timetable information system HAFAS that provides the basis for journey planners of numerous international transport companies. HAFAS helps millions of passengers to always be up to date on their connections - in Germany, for instance, with the DB Navigator app of Deutsche Bahn. In close cooperation with the HaCon offices in London, Paris and Berlin, the team at the Hannover headquarters currently works on several major projects in Europe and beyond.

"It makes us feel proud to be recognized by a US elite university like the MIT. This is a great honor for our entire team of 250 colleagues. Not least, we owe this to our customers and their innovative strength," says Michael Frankenberg, Managing Director at HaCon. "To be listed as one of the '50 Smartest Companies' in the MIT Technology Review is another incentive to promote our marketing efforts in North America for our products surrounding the topic of mobility." In this context, HaCon has recently invested in the New York City-based startup Bytemark, in order to jointly develop the apps of the future.
