New Success for HaCon with "SNCF Maps"

Ici vous trouvez notre communiqué de presse en français.

As of now, SNCF shows the real-time data of their trains and connections by means of "SNCF Maps" that is available on By clicking on "Géolocalisez votre train," the HAFAS Live Map reveals the current positions of all trains in France. Since many years already, the French National Railway Company has been relying on HaCon technology with its HAFAS-based journey planner. After the integration of real-time data, "SNCF Maps" now offers additional service for passengers and helps them to coordinate their journeys and connections.

In order to visualize up to 22,000 trains per day, "SNCF Maps" links over one million operational train messages with about 5,000 timetable data sets of rail passenger traffic. For the first time in the history of HAFAS Live Maps, HaCon calculates the train movements by combining GPS and positioning data received from track stations which makes the map even more precise. The new HAFAS Client Interface HCI guarantees real-time display of the train positions - a future benefit also for passengers with smartphones and tablets: "SNCF Maps" will soon be available free of charge in all common app stores.

For SNCF, HaCon designed a specific editor that enables them to easily adapt "SNCF Maps" according to their needs, for instance to show only certain trains or map sections.
Moreover, the customized editor permits the French National Railway Company to configure and integrate the map view with various different web applications.

Immediately after the launch of "SNCF Maps," travelers already commented enthusiastically about the new feature. Julien Ducreux, in charge of SNCF Customer Service, confirmed on SCNF La Radio that the implementation of real-time information significantly contributes to the map's success: "SNCF Maps is the first application in Europe that precisely localizes and displays trains throughout France by means of both GPS and infrastructure information. The combination of the two data sources results in the highest possible precision that is unique to date."

Michael Landwehr, Project Manager at HaCon, said: "After Deutsche Bahn in Germany and Österreichische Bundesbahnen in Austria, SNCF is the next major European customer to opt for HAFAS Live Maps. Our system's quality and innovative strength combined with speed, flexibility and software performance were crucial factors. Together with SNCF, we developed many ideas and extended our product by exciting new features."
