HAFAS User Conference 2014: Trends and Innovations in Passenger Information

Hannover Apr 03, 2014

On April 1 and 2, for the second time already, the Hannover Congress Centrum (HCC) provided the stage for the annual HAFAS User Conference that has a strong focus on current trends in passenger information. Customers from 15 countries learned about HaCon’s latest innovations and product developments: In addition to representatives of transportation companies and networks, several technology and logistics providers attended the presentations and discussions with great interest.

This year, mobile journey planners in general and integrated functions such as cash-free ticketing in particular were at the center of attention. HaCon’s partnership with EOS UPTRADE has already created valuable synergy effects that the transport industry now benefits from: EOS UPTRADE’s successful TICKeos solution is available as a standard module in HAFAS apps, thus adding an essential new component to the comprehensive portfolio of functions within the HaCon software.

Moreover, HaCon’s mobile journey planners increasingly provide passengers with onboard, indoor or outdoor navigation. These brand-new features help them to find their way around and reach their destination more easily. Travelers appreciate customized routing information, for instance on the track section closest to the reserved seat or the nearest exits. In this context, HaCon showed possible applications for Apple’s iBeacon that facilitate indoor navigation: While communicating with HAFAS apps, the new transmitter can serve as an additional source of routing advice and give directions via smartphone.

Current trends, such as electromobility and car sharing, were further key topics of the HAFAS User Conference. Integrated mobility, meaning the smart combination of private and public means of transport, was highlighted in particular. Together with BMW, HaCon presented the new, groundbreaking i3 mobility concept that includes European and North American public transport data supplied by the navigation system. Aside from departure boards, HaCon provides BMW with routing information from park-and-ride lots or charging stations to any desired destination.

In addition to HaCon’s own presentations, numerous customers shared their experiences and gave insights into everyday work with HAFAS. For the first time, HaCon offered the opportunity to attend various product-specific workshops after the conference: Participants took the chance to gather in-depth knowledge of HAFAS Smart VMS, the HAFAS Real-time Data Hub or TPS Integrator.
