Windows Mobile 6 Classic, Standard and Professional) as well as an XScale or ARM processor and at least 8 MB RAM. - Desktop PC with Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista - Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center installed and initialized on the desktop PC - Pocket PC/Smartphone linked to the desktop PC via serial/USB cable, infrared interface or network card - Min. 4.5 MB unoccupied storage memory on the Pocket PC/Smartphone (we recommend using a Flash-RAM add-on memory card) - Min. 4.9 MB unoccupied program memory on the Pocket PC/Smartphone for executing HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone 1.2 Installing HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone Before installing a new version of HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone on your Pocket PC/Smartphone you should first deinstall the preceding version (this does not apply to updates). You can start the deinstallation procedure on the Pocket PC/Smartphone from the START menu by selecting "Settings", "System", "Remove Programs" and "Settings", "Remove Programs" respectively; in the latter, select the item "SBB CFF FFS ..." and actuate the "Remove" button or menu item. Ensure that Microsoft Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center are installed on the desktop PC and that the link to the connected Pocket PC/Smartphone is functioning properly. To install HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone, insert the CD in your desktop PC’s CD- ROM drive and start SETUP.EXE in the \MOBILE directory on the CD. The installation procedure commences with several enquiries on the desktop PC before program and timetable data are transferred to the Pocket PC/Smartphone. You are first asked to select your desired installation and program language (German, English, French or Italian). You are then asked to select the timetable you wish to install; you can choose between the following timetable data sets: - The most important railway services operated by SBB/CFF/FFS in Switzerland (approx. 2,400 stations). Contains all long-distance services and selected local services. Requires approx. 4.5 MB storage memory and 4.9 MB program memory Recommended: A device with 16 MB RAM or more. - All railway services operated by SBB/CFF/FFS in Switzerland (approx. 18,500 stations). Contains all long- distance and local services operated by SBB/CFF/FFS in Switzerland. This timetable is identical to the desktop version. It also contains bus routes, cable cars, ships and the like. Requires approx. 8.9 MB storage memory and approx. 11.9 MB program memory. Recommended: A device with 32 MB RAM or more. Please check the different amounts of memory required by the offered data sets against the available memory on your Pocket PC/Smartphone! If the storage memory on your Pocket PC/Smartphone is insufficient, you can try changing the partitioning between data and program memory with the help of the Control Panel (only Pocket PCs and not for Windows Mobile 5.0 or newer). To do this, go to the Start menu of your Pocket PC and select "Settings", "System", "Memory". Then move the displayed slide control towards the right until sufficient storage memory is indicated to accommodate the data set you wish to install. In the next step, you can select for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs whether HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone is to be installed on an optional Flash-RAM card or on the RAM of your Pocket PC. For Windows Mobile Smartphones you can select it later on the Windows Mobile device. We recommend installation on a Flash-RAM card if one is installed on the Pocket PC/Smartphone. Following this, the transfer then commences of all requisite program and timetable data to the Pocket PC/Smartphone. Depending on the volume to be installed, the installation procedure can take between 1 and 20 minutes. When the installation has been correctly completed, you can start HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone by actuating "Programs" / "SBB CFF FFS 10" in the Start menu. Please refer to the following instructions in this Readme file if you should have any problems starting the program. 2 Memory In the Pocket PCs/Smartphones a differentiation is made between two different memory areas, namely storage memory and program memory. Storage memory is only required for the storing of files, e.g. for program files or timetable data. The storage memory occupied by HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone is required on continuous basis, irrespective of whether this program is being run or not. The amount of available storage memory can be enlarged by deleting unneeded files or software which is no longer required. Program memory is required exclusively for the execution of programs. HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone only occupies program memory when it is being run. The amount of available program memory can be enlarged by closing running applications. Flash-RAM cards additionally installed on your Pocket PC/Smartphone can only be used as supplementary storage memory, however not as program memory. If the memory capacity of your Pocket PC/Smartphone is insufficient to start up applications, you can change the partitioning between data and program memory via the Control Panel (only Pocket PCs and not for Windows Mobile 5.0 or newer). To do this, go to the Start menu of your Pocket PC and select "Settings", "System", "Memory". Then move the displayed slide control towards the left until sufficient program memory is indicated to meet your requirements. In the event that the storage memory of your Pocket PC/Smartphone is already occupied by other files or applications which you cannot do without, we recommend installing an add-on Flash-RAM card. You can then install HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone and other applications on the add- on card, thereby saving valuable RAM which can then be made available again as program memory. The memory space required by HAFAS is always indicated separately as data and program memory. To estimate the amount of RAM required, simply add these two values together. If your Pocket PC/Smartphone is equipped with a Flash-RAM card and you have installed HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone on this add-on card, the memory requirement in the RAM corresponds with the indicated program memory, the space required on the memory card the indicated storage memory. 3 Updates At present, HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone still requires special updates. It is unfortunately not yet possible to use the timetable updates of the Windows CD-ROM directly, even if this for the most part involves the same timetable data files. As soon as updates become available you can find these at Windows Mobile Pocket PC Version: http://updates.sbb.ch/sbb/update.exe/HAFASWIN-SBB-X10-CE+0+ENG? Windows Mobile Smartphone Version: http://updates.sbb.ch/sbb/update.exe/HAFASWIN-SBB-X10-SP+0+ENG? 4 Deinstallation To deinstall HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone, please use the Deinstallation application in the Start menu of your Pocket PC/Smartphone. To do this, go to the Start menu, select "Settings", "System", "Remove Programs" and "Settings", "Remove Programs" respectively. In the dialogue box now displayed, select the item "SBB CFF FFS 10" and actuate the "Remove" button or menu item. When the deinstallation procedure has been correctly completed, HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone will have been completed erased from the Pocket PC/Smartphone and can no longer be started. 5 FAQ 5.1 Missing functions Question: Where are Station timetable boards/Nearby stations/ Price information/... ? I can't find these functions in the menu bar! Answer: To enable HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone to be used on Pocket PCs/Smartphones, it was necessary to adapt this program's memory requirements to the customarily smaller memory capacities available in Pocket PCs/Smartphones. To this end, functions less frequently used in the desktop version of HAFAS have not been included in HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone. This only applies to auxiliary functions; HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone naturally provides complete timetable information without any compromises in quality. Using the same timetable database, HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone finds the same connections as HAFAS for Windows. The following functions in the Windows version are not available in HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone or are implemented differently: · Nearby stations · Print functions · Price information · Station timetable board · Restriction to max. 1 via station and max. 1 start and 1 destination station · No setting options ("Settings" dialogue) · Partial search (longer stay at a transfer station) · Switching of the user language while the program is in use. 5.2 Problems with memory cards Question: HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone appears to have problems with memory cards. HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone terminates itself without warning, error messages are displayed. What can I do about this? Answer: HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone can generally be installed on memory cards as well. However, depending on what version of HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone and the type of Pocket PC/Smartphone you have, it is possible that one or the other symptom might crop up: - The name of the memory card contains umlauts Older versions of HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone do not allow installation on memory cards with a name that contains an umlaut, e.g. "Bereitgestellter Datenträger". This problem has been rectified by means of an updated setup and HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone version. - Quitting HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone takes excessively long You quit HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone via the menu item "Exit". On some memory cards it takes excessively long to quit the program. In some cases this also leads to incomplete CFG files with corresponding error messages. This problem has been rectified by means of an updated version of HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone. - Having switched off and restarted the PDA, HAFAS Pocket is then displayed for a short while. However, when the application is then used, HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone disappears without any error message being displayed. In some cases, error messages such as "Write/Read/Positioning error in zuginfo.c" appear as well, after which the application terminates itself. Subsequently, in some instances, error messages with the text "Failure in loading HAFASR.DLL [...]" appear when an attempt is made to restart HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone. Causes and remedies: Where Pocket PCs from Windows Mobile 2003 upwards are concerned, Microsoft has changed the timing involved in switching off and restarting the PDA in connection with memory cards. This means that applications that keep files open on memory cards might, under certain circumstances, not be permitted access to these files when the PDA is restarted. In some cases, applications started from a memory card might even be forcibly terminated when the PDA is restarted. Microsoft have now confirmed that this is a problem. The remedy suggested by Microsoft comprises a registry entry that has to be appropriately adapted on the Pocket PC. Newer versions of HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone contain a dialogue for adjusting the registry value. This dialogue can only be accessed on Pocket PCs with Windows Mobile 2003 or newer versions of Windows Mobile! To access this dialogue in HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone, press the key combination CTRL+W on the Pocket PCs soft keyboard. By means of the dialogue that then appears you should then raise the displayed value and subsequently perform a soft reset of the Pocket PC. In the event of problems with memory cards in connection with older versions of HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone you should do a program update. Where newer versions are concerned (from 2005 onwards), you should, if necessary, raise the registry value by means of the dialogue in HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone as referred to above. 5.3 Synchronizing timetables Question: How can I automatically transfer those timetables to my Pocket PC/Smartphone which I installed on my desktop PC with the standard Windows version? That would be really practical, e.g. after downloading updates for the normal desktop PC version from the Internet. Answer: This is not yet possible due to limitations imposed by the currently available Windows Mobile versions. For the time being, users will unfortunately have to use installation procedures and updates specially adapted for HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone. 5.4 Printing out connections Question: How can I print out connections with HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone? Answer: Because printers are only ever connected to Pocket PCs/Smartphones in exceptional cases, printer functions were done without in HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone. This meant it was possible to further reduce HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone's memory requirement significantly. 5.5 No response? Question: HAFAS - or the Pocket PC/Smartphone as a whole - doesn't respond anymore. What can I do? Answer: In spite of extensive and rigorous quality controls it can, in isolated cases, happen that HAFAS - or the Pocket PC/Smartphone as a whole - suddenly no longer responds to your commands. If you are nevertheless still able to access the Start menu on your Pocket PC, you can try terminating the non- responding application by selecting "Settings", "System", "Memory", "Running Programs". If you are still unable to terminate the application concerned, then a software-reset can be of help (consult the manual supplied with your Pocket PC/Smartphone). If a software reset is not possible, consult the manual supplied with your Pocket PC/Smartphone to determine how to reset the unit. As a rule - and without any resultant loss of data - a reset is possible via a specific key-stroke combination or by means of a small reset button on the Pocket PC/Smartphone unit. To prevent any loss of data, we recommend making regular back-ups of the data on your Pocket PC/Smartphone! 5.6 Manual deinstallation / Relocating the installation directory Question: What files does HAFAS Pocket/Smartphone install and where? Can I relocate the installed version into another directory? Or deinstall it manually? Answer: With just a few exceptions due to limitations imposed by Windows Mobile, all requisite files are located in the Installation directory. Provided all files are retained, the files can be relocated into any other directory. To this end it is merely necessary to adjust the link in the Start menu accordingly. To deinstall HAFAS from your Pocket PC/Smartphone manually, it is necessary to erase the installation directory will all the files contained therein. In the Windows directory you will find the Help file HAFASRE.HTP and the file "SBB CFF FFS 10.UNLOAD". The corresponding item in the Start menu can also be erased as a file via a directory in the Windows Mobile file system. The exact path to this directory depends on what Pocket PC/Smartphone you have, so it cannot be precisely defined here. 6 Hotline Before calling our hotline, please complete the following questionnaire.
