HaCon Timetable Information HAFAS for the iPhone

[Hannover, June 2009]

Commuting iPhone users in Austria benefit from the new mobile services provided by Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB): The route planner SCOTTY mobil has been jointly developed by HaCon and ÖBB. Now it can be downloaded in the App Store for free where it has headed the ranking list within just a few days.

SCOTTY mobil shows the way

Users of the iPhone version of SCOTTY mobil are always up to date, no matter where they are - SCOTTY knows addresses and timetables of all public transport in Austria as well as train connections throughout Europe. In order to find their way, there is no need for travellers to know where they are located, this knows GPS instead.

Area maps show footpaths from any given location to the next stop. Real-time information mentions punctual connections as well as trains on delay. And if something unpredictable should happen, SCOTTY mobil will keep travellers informed about disturbances and alternative modes of transport.

The applications SCOTTY and SCOTTY mobil are both based on the timetable information system HAFAS. The impetus for the development of the latter was the success of SCOTTY, the online route planner of ÖBB. It handles about 100 million queries a year and has also been jointly developed by HaCon and ÖBB. The first step towards a mobile timetable information system was taken in October 2008. Since then, an increasing number of mobile phone users discovered the advantages of the ÖBB planner en route. Now SCOTTY mobil for the iPhone can be downloaded for free in the App Store. Additionally, SCOTTY mobil is still available for mobile phones and blackberries. For more information click www.oebb.at/scottymobil/iphone.
