New services of Deutsche Bahn (DB), thanks to HAFAS: timetable information for the iPhone and comparison of different modes of transport

The new iPhone application of the Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) and an application for the comparison of transport by train / plane / car are based on solutions developed by HaCon. After the winter timetable change on December 13th, passengers can use some of the new services for planning, booking and information during the trip. DB introduced these applications for the first time, among other services, during their press conference on December 8th.

HAFAS for the iPhone at DB

iPhone applications based on HAFAS have already been successfully implemented for ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways), for Rejseplanen in Denmark and Cross Country trains in the UK, among others. An iPhone application of the mobile timetable information "DB Navigator" will soon be available for free via the App Store from Apple. With the application passengers can then retrieve timetable information in real time and will always be informed about the punctuality of their trains. The "DB Navigator" for the iPhone not only accompanies travellers from door to door, but shows them stops in the vicinity.

Comparison train/plane/car

bahn.de also provides a comparative application that calculates from real-time data the most suitable means of travel. As start and finale destination, stations or airports can be entered in addition to addresses. Unlike existing offerings the application includes along with the price and the travel time, the usable time and the potential negative impact of the choice of transport. Passengers can weigh the relevance of the different factors according to personal preference. Real time data is delivered by HaCon, the ADAC, start.de and the Heidelberg Institute for Environment and Energy Research (ifeu).
