First customer in New Zealand: IVU and HaCon strengthen Auckland's buses, trains and ferries
[Hannover, February 2010]
The partners IVU Traffic Technologies AG and HaCon are heading together for New Zealand. As a leading provider of IT
systems for planning, operation and optimisation of transport and logistics processes, the Berlin based IVU has been able
to win the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) as a new customer for the software IVU.suite. Thus the ARTA, which is
responsible for all public transport with buses, trains and ferries in Greater Auckland, replaces its existing system with
new software "Made in Germany".
In future, the timetables for all buses, trains and ferries will be created with IVU.plan and merged into the IVU.pool. This forms the basis for multimodal timetable information with IVU.journey and thus HAFAS. During the year 2010, a multimodal timetable information system for Greater Auckland is to be implemented with HAFAS. It will contain integrated maps, including footpath routing and information on fares.
Around 1.3 million people currently live and work in the Auckland region. Growing population and thus sharply rising car traffic in and around Auckland make transportation by private means of transport increasingly slow. So, the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) intends to strengthen the attractiveness of public transport in the region. Approximately 58.6 million times a year the people of Auckland travel through their city by bus, train and ferry. Until 2016, ARTA plans to double that number. 896,072 rides a week alone - and rising - were completed in 2009 with buses, which are thus the main public means of transport.
