RADIS - system components
Operating system
- Graphic user interface (X-WINDOW/OSF motif or Windows NT/Windows 95)
- Online monitoring of current applications
- Remote servicing while the system is running
- Remote installation of updates/releases while the system is running
- Several applications, i.e. serving several workstations via one computer
- Access to peripheral devices (e.g. printers) from all applications and workstations
- Unmanned operation
Data bank system
RADIS employs a relational data bank management system (RDBMS) for handling the master, transaction and system data. Its use in production plants such as in steel-, chemical- and automotive industries assumes a very high degree of data integrity and security at a high level of performance. In addition, a 24-hour online system such as RADIS places corresponding demands on the online capabilities of the data bank system. Possible systems at present are:
- INFORMIX ONLINE version 5.0 or newer
- ORACLE version 7.1 or newer
Information system
All RADIS applications are based on the principle of local data storage: a relevant segment of the current database is loaded upon booting up and kept up to date with the help of an asynchronous information system (RMS). All operations required for this run in the background, invisible to the user. This results in two advantages:
- Rapid availability of data without having to download from the data bank, particularly with display and search functions.
- Offline operation option
The RADIS system processes interact with the applications on the server side, also with the help of the information system. The benefits of this can be seen when using server services (e.g. reporting), interface events and system/user messages.
